Board and community celebrate student and staff achievements; Henderson academic team finishes fourth nationally

Administrators also recognized state-level DECA winners from Ruston High School and a state violin finalist from Ruston.
Henderson academic team: Public commenter Steve Sobek, a former Henderson teacher, and resident Andrea Sankern recounted the Henderson academic team's run at the High School National Championship Tournament (HSNCT) in Atlanta, where the team finished fourth out of more than 300 teams. Both speakers described the long season, the coaches' unpaid time commitments and the team's progression through regional tournaments to reach nationals. Henderson teachers and the Henderson principal also praised the team and named team members and coaches invited to the podium.
Student leaders: The meeting included outgoing student board representatives from East, Henderson and Ruston high schools who summarized spring activities, sports achievements, DECA and Science Olympiad results, senior events and college commitments. They thanked the board for the opportunity to serve.
Community response and logistics: Several speakers thanked coaches, teachers and parent volunteers, and the superintendent invited the honored students and staff to join the board in the lobby for photos. The meeting recorded many named recognitions and awards across the district's high schools and middle schools.
