Arlington County Board approves consent agenda, pulls nonprofit grant item for later hearing

Vice Chair Matt Ferrante moved to approve the consent agenda without item 12 (nonprofit grants); the motion was seconded and carried unanimously. The board did not adopt the pulled item and indicated it will be the subject of a public hearing at the board's recessed meeting on Tuesday, March 18, at or after 6:00 p.m.
Board members highlighted several items included in the consent agenda during the meeting:
- A site-plan amendment to temporarily house Arlington Community High School at Amazon's South Maryland building while the school's permanent home at Penn Place is built. The county described the school as a program serving about 300 older students (18 and over) completing diplomas.
- Renewal of a use permit for an outdoor café at the Celtic House Irish Pub at 2500 Columbia Pike; board members noted heightened activity expected over the Saint Patrick's Day weekend.
- Authorization to increase the administrative expense threshold for the HUD Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) program up to $150,000 to cover program administration costs; the board said this change does not affect the number of vouchers or subsidy amounts paid to recipients.
- Allocation of $1,200,000 in Neighborhoods Program bond funds for two projects: improvements at Slater Park and a street/intersection project near Alice Fleet Elementary in Arlington Heights.
- A $20,000 appropriation for the Neighborhood Mini-Grant program for FY2026 (grants up to $1,000 each for community groups), and acceptance of $185,000 in Virginia Quality Birth-5 (VQ B5) funds for early childhood classroom supports.
- Acceptance of the 6600 Wilson Boulevard special General Land Use Plan (GLUP) study and authorization to advertise potential GLUP amendment hearings; the board made clear accepting the study does not mean approval of any GLUP amendment.
- A financing item related to the Serrano Apartments (refinancing steps) and other routine permitting and administrative items.
The board said items pulled from the consent agenda by the public or board members will be heard at the March 18 evening session, which will begin no earlier than 6 p.m.
