The Kenai Senior Commission approved its February 2025 work plan during a regular meeting on March 13, according to meeting minutes and discussion recorded on the meeting transcript.
The work plan approved by the commission lists three principal tasks: identify opportunities for intergenerational programs linking seniors and youth or college students; review the emergency plan at the Kenai Senior Center and make recommendations to the City Council; and provide programs and activities intended to increase the health and wellness of the senior population. Commission members moved and approved the recommendation without recorded dissent.
Commissioners spent time discussing procedural concerns about how agenda items are presented and handled. Several commissioners referenced training material explaining that the city follows Robert’s Rules of Order, and noted that when a recommendation is placed on the floor it should be voted to be considered before substantive discussion. One commissioner said the clerk had raised procedural questions after a prior meeting about whether the correct order had been followed; another said the city clerk did not object to the substance but that there had been a disagreement over the application of rules.
The commission directed staff to carry out the work-plan tasks and to provide recommendations back to the commission and, where applicable, to the City Council. The transcript indicates the item was taken up as new business and approved by voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the transcript.
The commission also noted scheduling: the next commission meeting is scheduled for April 10, and the commission chair indicated the budget would likely be presented at the first meeting in May rather than in April.
Ending: The approved work plan sets the commission’s priorities for the coming months; staff follow-up and any Council referrals will determine when individual recommendations return for further action.
