Burleson ISD approves TEA staff-development waiver and adopts 2025–26 academic calendar

The Burleson Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a Texas Education Agency (TEA) staff-development waiver and adopted the district's proposed 2025–26 school calendar at its March 10 meeting.
Dr. April Chiarelli presented the waiver and calendar. She said TEA allows districts up to 2,100 waiver minutes for staff development; the district asked to use 1,740 minutes this coming year to provide additional staff development while keeping required instructional minutes for students. The board approved the waiver by motion.
Chiarelli then presented the 2025–26 calendar recommended by the district educational improvement committee. The proposed calendar follows the prior year's schedule with dates shifted for 2025–26: the first student day is scheduled for Aug. 13, 2025, and the last student day for May 21, 2026. The calendar provides 75,600 instructional minutes for students, 187 teacher work days and 174 student days, and includes five campus days before school starts and two workdays before the first day of instruction.
The board approved the calendar as presented; trustees said teachers appreciated an additional workday when returning from the winter break. Board members did not specify further changes during the meeting.
