Burleson ISD hires Blake Meyer as Centennial High athletic coordinator and football coach; grants interim hiring authority

The Burleson Independent School District Board of Trustees voted March 10 to give the board president authority to approve new hires between the March meeting and the district's next regular meeting in April, and to approve the hiring of Blake Meyer as the athletic coordinator and head football coach at Centennial High School.

The board recessed into closed session earlier in the meeting under provisions the agenda cited from the Texas Government Code relating to closed-session consultations. After returning to open session, a board member recommended granting the board president authority to approve hires that arise before the April meeting; the board approved the motion and said it will ratify any such hires at its next regular meeting.

The board then considered and approved the hire of Blake Meyer as presented. Board members described Meyer as a long-time district staff member who has coached in the district for many years and who served as defensive coordinator at Centennial; the board noted his involvement in recent playoff runs and program milestones. Meyer was introduced to the audience and attended the meeting with family members.

No dissenting votes were recorded on either motion. The board indicated the hiring action followed the closed-session personnel deliberations and that formal ratification and personnel processing will follow district procedures.

The meeting record shows the personnel matters were discussed as part of the closed-session agenda items the board listed at the start of the meeting, including teacher and administrator employment and other personnel matters.
