The Student Advisory Committee of Connecticut State Colleges and Universities spent a short portion of its meeting reviewing a revised SAC bylaws draft and agreed to continue detailed review across meetings, with the next discussion scheduled for March 28.
Vice Chair Cheyenne Arlington told members the bylaws committee had simplified language, added definitions and updated institutional names, and that the draft needed one more pass and review in a second meeting before referral to the Board of Regents for approval.
Cheyenne asked members to prioritize a short set of questions the committee had prepared and said the draft includes an addendum of definitions and a list of items the committee thought needed clarification. Committee member Donna said the group should focus on the questions because of limited time and should emphasize meeting attendance rules.
Members agreed that posting the bylaws or sending them with meeting notes would help substitutes and new members understand procedures. The group also agreed there should be a method for signatory acknowledgement of the bylaws for accountability, though the SAC did not adopt new language at the meeting.
Several students asked that SAC expand outreach and clarify the committee’s role so that representatives understand the advisory group’s authority and responsibilities. Louis Sanchez said SAC members can exercise influence on tuition and system policies by coordinating positions across campuses and that the committee would prepare materials explaining SAC’s role to share with member campuses.
The committee proposed inviting Connecticut State President Maduco to speak to SAC about planned changes to campus leadership and the multi‑campus president model; SAC leadership said they would schedule that meeting. The group also discussed shifting to more frequent (biweekly) meetings to finish bylaws work, and organizers said they would send a follow‑up email proposing a biweekly schedule.
No formal vote on the bylaws took place; the committee set a plan to continue review and to provide materials to campuses once BOR procedures are complete.
