Student leaders plan Feb. 22 SGA leadership summit at Central campus

Central Connecticut State University students told the Student Advisory Committee on Jan. 10 that they are organizing a statewide SGA leadership summit on Saturday, Feb. 22, with workshops, a keynote speaker and networking opportunities.
Aliyah, an SGA advisor at Central, described the event as a half- to full-day summit planned from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and said Central has confirmed participation from seven institutions including Southern, Eastern, Central and Western Connecticut state universities, Connecticut College, Albertus Magnus College and the University of Bridgeport.
Cheyenne and other SAC members said they will help publicize the summit and requested a formal flyer and outreach materials to distribute to student-activities directors across the Connecticut State system. "If your campus is or school is not on here and you're like looking to join, definitely you can email out to me, or Luis and we'll get into connection about kind of putting you guys on the roster," Aliyah said.
System office staff offered to share event information with student-activities directors and flagged potential needs such as transportation or other accommodations for students traveling between campuses.
Next steps: the Central SGA organizers will prepare formal promotional materials and a registration process; SAC members asked to be added to distribution lists and suggested student-activities directors be contacted to broaden participation.
The summit is intended to create a state-focused forum for student governments to share best practices and network; organizers said earlier outreach will help determine space and support needs.
