District reports strong I Ready diagnostic gains; curriculum committee adds Alere Community Farm trip

The curriculum committee reported it reviewed the I Ready diagnostic results and discussed curriculum items. The committee recommended adding the Alere Community Farm as a district pre‑field trip location for first graders; administrators said that trip aligns with the third marking‑period science unit for first grade. The board approved committee recommendations listed on the agenda, including this field trip proposal.
Committee members also said the district is distributing cursive and handwriting resources to third‑grade classrooms; they noted cursive is not a New Jersey standard and there is no state testing requirement for cursive proficiency. The committee said schedules for implementation are school‑specific.
The curriculum presenter said a full end‑of‑year presentation on I Ready growth will be provided to the board once spring diagnostics are complete.
"It's looking very good," one committee member said when summarizing the winter data.
The board passed the committee's recommendations during the consent agenda roll call later in the meeting.
