Commission authorizes up to $100,000 for repairs to precast buffer walls after repeated vehicle strikes

The North Lauderdale City Commission on March 13 authorized the city manager to issue a purchase order for $41,300 with an additional reserve of $58,700 (total authorized up to $100,000) to repair precast buffer walls damaged by vehicle collisions.
Public Works staff said the precast panels are produced by Precast Wall Systems, Inc., and repairs must be performed by an authorized contractor, Enzco Inc. The city reported seven hits to precast walls in 2024 totaling about $92,000 in damage; in 2025 several more panels had been hit and remained unrepaired.
The commission approved an initial repair request for $41,300 and authorized a contingency/reserve so staff can quickly order repairs if additional hits occur. Commissioners asked staff to pursue reimbursement from responsible parties' insurance policies when police reports and license-plate information are available.
A roll-call vote approving the $100,000 authorization recorded unanimous yes votes from Commissioner Lewis, Commissioner Regina Martin, Commissioner Bustamante, Vice Mayor Louis Ricketts and Mayor Samson Bordelon.
Staff said last year the commission budgeted $150,000 for such repairs and used roughly $92,000, leaving a balance; this year staff asked for a smaller budget authorization of $100,000 based on current needs. The city will route any insurance reimbursements through human resources/finance per internal process.
