Sierra Vista previews spring events, road closures and West End streetscape plans

Adam Curtis, communications manager for the City of Sierra Vista, outlined the municipalitys spring events on KWCDFirst Watch and urged residents to expect traffic impacts during a major cycling weekend.
Curtis said the El Torre Zona bicycling event will bring hundreds of cyclists and family members to Sierra Vista and that the city will host a free companion festival called Zona in the Park with live music and a beer garden at Veterans Memorial Park. "It's free and open to the public," Curtis said, and he encouraged residents to welcome visiting cyclists.
He warned drivers to expect cyclists on local roads during the weekend and noted planned route activity: cyclists will leave Veterans Memorial Park Friday morning for a town loop and on Saturday will ride a route to Bisbee and back that uses Highway 90 and Highway 92. Curtis said Charleston Road will be fully closed on Sunday for a 36-mile ride; the closure was described as running from about 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Curtis also previewed West Fest (the rebranded West End Fair), set for Saturday, April 12, with street closures on Fry Boulevard for vendors, live music and a chalk-art contest. He discussed a Garden Avenue streetscape project that will extend earlier Fry Boulevard improvements and said the city is pursuing funding and has budgeted for work this year.
Other planned events mentioned included an Easter family event at Veterans Memorial Park, the Sky Island Summit Challenge and the Sierra Vista Wine, Beer and Spirits Festival on the Memorial Day weekend. Curtis directed listeners to the city website (SierraVistaAZ.gov), the City of Sierra Vista Facebook page and Eventbrite for festival ticket information.
Curtis said the city mails the Vista newsletter and that residents can submit community events for the online calendar; he also noted the city uses Facebook, Instagram and X for updates.
