Collierville planning commissioners approve consent item after landscaping screening revision

The Collierville Planning Commission on an unaniminous roll call approved a consent-agenda land-use item after staff said the applicant agreed to all conditions of approval and a commissioner flagged a plant-selection concern for screening a backflow preventer.

Planning staffer Mr. Gross told commissioners the applicant agreed to the project conditions and that staff believed the case qualified for the consent agenda. Commissioner Lawhon raised a brief landscaping concern, saying the shrub specified to screen a backflow preventer — referenced in the packet as “dwarf eel pond” — “is hardly a screen shrub” and recommended a different selection to meet screening requirements. Mr. Gross said staff would pass the comment to the landscape architect and the applicant.

After a motion to move the formal agenda item to the consent agenda and a subsequent motion to approve the consent agenda with Lawhon’s suggested revision relayed to staff, the commission voted by roll call with all members recorded as voting yes. Angela (the meeting clerk) called the roll; commissioners recorded as voting yes were Peeler, Larimore, Lawhon, Payne, Donhart, Robbins, Hepner and Doss.

Mr. Gross told the commission he would follow up with the applicant after the meeting to confirm the landscaping change and next steps toward permitting and construction.

The approval places the project on the consent agenda with the single requested design clarification about plant selection; no other changes or added conditions were recorded during the meeting.
