A county staff member told the commission, "We had a blow out of our water main last night." The staff member said crews — including an employee identified only as Heath, Jake Dyer from the city and a person named Greg — responded and made repairs that restored water to the building.
The staff member described the response: "Heath got right on it along with, Jake Dyer from the city. And they, Jake knew some people to call. So we got people in. Greg had stopped by as well, and we did lose some of our concrete." The staff member added, "we got right on it, fixed the leak, and we have water in the building." The chair interjected a brief quip, "The duct tape."
Officials said they had not yet determined the cause of the failure. The staff member noted that the pipe "is not the newest of pipes," and that a prior major plumbing project at the building had occurred several years ago; the county is awaiting further information. No timetable for a decision on replacing the pipe was given.
The brief meeting opened with all commissioners present. Commissioners moved and seconded approval of the agenda and approval of the minutes from the Feb. 26, 2025, meeting; both motions were called and "passed unanimously," according to the meeting record. No executive session was requested. The meeting then adjourned.
The county did not provide a cause, nor a schedule or cost estimate for any potential pipe replacement during the meeting. Commissioners and staff indicated they were awaiting additional information before any formal direction or capital decision.
Polk County will need to determine whether the affected pipe requires full replacement or repair after receiving the cause and condition assessment; no follow-up direction or vote was recorded at the March 5 meeting.
