City staff told the Sunnyvale Human Relations Commission the first signature event, Allies in Training: Building a Better Community, will be held Friday, June 13, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The event will be offered in a hybrid format and staff said they plan to partner with nonprofit Services Never Sleeps.
Fernanda described the program as a shorter, more accessible version of last year’s intensive allyship training and said the city hopes to bring back trainer Whitney. She asked each commissioner to identify at least three community groups they are affiliated with or can help promote; staff will provide marketing materials and asked commissioners to be prepared to report back at the next HRC meeting.
Commissioners discussed room availability at City Hall for an in-person gathering alongside the virtual component. Fernanda said the presentation will be in English and that translation support (“Worley” per the transcript) would be used. Staff also said they would email more event details by the following Monday. A remote public commenter raised a separate concern about seniors during public comment but the chair ruled that topic outside the scope of this specific agenda item. No formal motion or vote was taken on the event.
