Laguna Beach—s Design Review Board on March 13 approved a design review and coastal permit for a new attached accessory dwelling unit at 31282 Cienotus Drive, despite the ADU exceeding the 25-foot ADU height standard.
Staff explained the project met the 30-foot height standard that applies to the site and that the ADU—s additional height (about two feet over the ADU standard) brought the proposal into design review. Staff noted correspondence from a neighbor and identified nearby four-story examples that were used to support neighborhood compatibility.
The applicant—s representative said the application had been in process for nearly two years and thanked staff for help finalizing the plans. Neighbors and property owners spoke in support; no unresolved objections prevented action.
Board members reviewed parking and neighborhood compatibility and agreed the findings could be made. The board adopted the resolution approving design review 24-2381 and the coastal development permit 24-2382 and found the action exempt from CEQA under §15303.
