Connor High teacher Kyle Holbrook honored with "Break the Mold" award

The Boone County Board of Education recognized Connor High School history teacher Kyle Holbrook with the district's "Break the Mold" award during its March meeting.
Dr. Jesse Hauswald introduced the good-news item and described Holbrook's ability to engage students through active lessons and a "question of the day." Students testified to Holbrook's classroom strategies, including participation rewards called "pennies" and memorable review activities.
Connor principal Andrew Wyckoff (referred to as AJ Wyckoff in the meeting) said Holbrook has been added to a mentor program to share teaching practices with younger colleagues. "Having Kyle available to do things like that is going to last for another generation," Wyckoff said.
Multiple students praised Holbrook's adaptability and the way he treats students as family. One student said, "He treats his students not like students but like family," and another said Holbrook's lessons make history "not boring." Holbrook accepted the award and thanked the school community.
The board presented a token of appreciation on the dais and congratulated Holbrook for the recognition.
