Public Works Committee approves Narragansett Electric pole petitions on Pontiac and Marion avenues

The Cranston Public Works Committee on March 13 approved two petitions from Narragansett Electric to install new poles on Pontiac Avenue and on Marion Avenue as part of an AMF (AMF-related) project.

Committee members said Narragansett submitted information to the committee but the Department of Public Works (DPW) had not initially filed paperwork for the record. Councilor H. (chairing the committee) reported she had spoken with DPW Director Moretti, who said DPW had approved the proposed locations; the committee requested written confirmation from DPW to add to the file.

Councilors reviewed aerial photos and orthophotography in committee and said they saw no obvious conflicts at the Pontiac Avenue or Marion Avenue locations. A chair's representative said the locations appear to be standard pole placements for service upgrades and that DPW sign-off was the remaining documentation requested by the committee. The chair said she would email and text the DPW director and asked staff to add DPW's written sign-off to the record. Committee members moved and seconded motions to approve the petitions; the motions passed on roll-call votes.

No residents spoke in objection at the meeting, and no technical objections were recorded. Director Moretti was cited in committee discussion as having already approved pole locations; the committee asked for DPW to provide written confirmation for the record.

The committee approved both Narragansett Electric petitions with the caveat that DPW would provide written verification of its sign-off.
