Alma School District recognizes staff and honors theater students headed to international festival

The Alma School District board held a staff-recognition segment that honored school employees for recent awards and accomplishments and heard students describe their state and national theater achievements.
Mister Corsi, a district administrator, introduced recognitions for the high school and middle school after a University of Arkansas office provided data showing both schools recorded high-growth scores in statewide achievement and growth measures. Administrators handed out printed recognitions to place in school buildings.
The board also recognized Tracy Dean. Mister Biggs said Dean "has been ... a wonderful job" after serving 24 years in the district and moving from substitute to teaching assistant and then office staff. The board praised her work organizing office tasks and handling parent communications.
Doctor Kuykendahl (listed in meeting materials and remarks as an administrator) introduced Lindsey Johnson, identified as "our career coach," and described Johnson's role coordinating student success plans, counseling-center curriculum and Alma's CTE showcase.
The board then heard from Danny Hobson, who leads the theater program, and three students who described their festival results. Morgan English, a junior, told the board Alma received 28 superior ratings at the State Thespian Festival, produced five "All State" winners, won first place in duet improvisation, and had three showcase performances and a one-act play selected to represent Arkansas at the International Thespian Festival.
Talon Dean, a senior, described college-audition opportunities available through the state festival and said the International Festival would be held at Indiana University in Bloomington. Riley Jo Price, stage manager, said Alma's technical-theater troupe has won national recognition multiple times and stressed the life skills technical theater teaches, including teamwork and problem solving.
Mister Biggs and other administrators thanked students and staff for their work and for representing Alma at state and international levels. The board did not take votes on the recognitions, which were ceremonial and celebratory in nature.
Ending: Administrators said they will share the recognition materials across campuses and continue supporting CTE and arts programs.
