District reports filled teacher rosters, continued classified vacancies and rise in bus-driver applications

Human-resources staff told the Washington Elementary School District Governing Board on March 13, 2025 that all teacher positions for the 2024'25 school year are filled while classified positions remain harder to fill.
Michael Stewart presented staffing numbers: all teacher positions are currently filled; 27 special-education teacher positions are staffed by purchase services; the district had 387 classified positions open (the presenter noted these are individual positions rather than full FTE counts); and a total of 416 positions were listed as open in the system (some are funded but not yet needed). Stewart also said the district is seeing an increase of 39 transportation-related applications compared with the same period last year after early recruitment and changes to transportation pay and structure.
Stewart noted that positions such as bus drivers and other CDL-related roles take longer to onboard because of required licensure and testing. The board heard the update as informational; trustees thanked staff for recruitment efforts and noted seeing drivers and staff in the community.
