Conewago Valley SD subcommittee advances revised policy on photographing inside district buildings

The Conewago Valley School District Board Policy Subcommittee voted to forward updated language for policy 2-37 to district staff for next steps, after the committee agreed to clarify when photographing or video-recording on district property is permitted.

Subcommittee members said the revision is intended to make clearer that capturing a photographic or video image of anyone inside a district building without prior consent is prohibited, while images taken at public events or authorized district events are allowable. Dr. Perry Allen, superintendent, said the changes reflect the committee's prior direction to add parameters around acceptable and unacceptable imagery.

The revision discussed adds language that the capturing of a photographic or video image of a person on district property or in conjunction with an authorized district event or a public event is permitted, while capturing images inside district buildings without prior consent is strictly prohibited. The subcommittee had previously requested clarifying edits under an “electronic images and photographs” section; the proposed text was presented at the meeting for a final review.

After a brief discussion confirming the intended scope, the subcommittee took a voice vote and moved the updated policy language forward to the district’s policy processing (referred to in the meeting as “stock and leader”).

The subcommittee indicated no further substantive edits were needed at this meeting; the updated language will be incorporated into the district's policy record and proceed through the next administrative steps.
