The Greenfield Union Elementary District Board voted to hire outside assistance for its superintendent search and approved a timeline for recruitment and interviews.
Lee Butler, chief human resources officer at the Monterey County Office of Education, presented a proposed timeline and recruitment plan and said she would prepare a brochure and an online survey for community and staff input. Butler outlined a schedule that would open applications in mid-March, close them April 4, allow board screening and select interviewees at a special April 15 meeting, conduct interviews April 22 (moved from April 21 to avoid the Easter weekend), and bring a hiring action for board approval in May.
Trustee Conn moved to approve the search and pay the county office for recruitment services; Clerk Gonzales seconded. The motion passed on a roll-call vote. At the board’s direction Butler will work with one or two board members to finalize the recruitment brochure, will run a public survey and hold one or more community forums during the application window, and will provide all applications and a screening matrix to the board ahead of interviews.
Board members discussed logistics for community participation, including offering drop-in support at the Family Resource Center to help residents complete the survey and scheduling forum dates during March 10–14. Butler said legal counsel advised that only one to two board members should work directly with staff on the recruitment brochure to avoid Brown Act issues; the full board will review all applications at the April 15 special meeting.
The motion passed with roll call; trustees voting in the affirmative at the recorded roll call included Trustee Reyna, Trustee Khan (recorded in roll call), Clerk Gonzales, Vice President Smith and the board president. Board members asked Butler to coordinate detailed dates and recommended that the district publicize Family Resource Center support hours for those needing help completing the survey.
