District staff reported a string of grant awards and pending applications intended to support equipment, special-education supports, career exploration and math programming.
Facilities and special-education staff received three small safety grants from the district's insurance trust: $972 for Braille-labeled emergency signs at Coventry High School; $1,000 to purchase mats and foam flooring to create dedicated sensory space for students with autism spectrum disorder; and $2,000 for neuropsychological and BCBA consultation to support teachers in Unified Learning and Support Services. The trust will recognize recipients at a forthcoming luncheon.
Career and technical education staff received a $3,904 grant for middle-school career exploration expansion. District staff also described submitting larger municipal-run LEARN365RI math grants that would fund after-school academies (April'June) and summer integrated math programs (July'August) with a requested range of $55,000 to $100,000; the district knows the minimum allocation is $55,000 and reported it had applied for the higher range to reflect possible additional funds from municipalities that decline their allocations.
Staff also said they planned to submit a rolling $10,000 municipal LEA health-related grant to be spent by the end of the fiscal year. Committee members thanked staff for pursuing grant funding as a way to support programs without increasing the local tax burden.
