Johnson County Schools to accept card payments for school fees; fees will be charged to users not district

A staff member explained the fee structure: there is a roughly 4% processing cost on card transactions plus a $0.35 per-transaction fee. "So there's no charge to us, but there is a charge to the person that's going to be using their own," the staff member said. The district said fees would be passed to the cardholder (parents or staff) rather than to the school system.
The board asked whether Central Cafeteria could be brought into the system; staff said Central Cafeteria operates separate accounts and that bringing its accounts into the card program would require separate coordination because cafeteria funding flows differently and is "primarily federal." Staff said the cafeteria manager (at NECCO) would have to pursue that participation.
No policy vote was taken; staff said bookkeepers will set up card acceptance for individual school accounts as requested and that the functionality would be used for fundraisers and school purchases as needed.
