District staff updated trustees on revenue from the school bus advertising program and the use of that revenue for student transportation and activity vehicles.
Staff presented a printed revenue summary showing total bus-sign income of about $34,718.18 to date. In May 2023 the district used $5,000 of those funds to purchase a 10-passenger activity van used for sports, robotics and club travel; staff said the remaining dedicated line item balance is $29,719.75.
The program is run under a contract in which the vendor solicits sponsors, produces and installs banners, and the revenue split is 45% to the vendor and 55% to the district. "We do nothing except receive this revenue," a staff member said. "And we keep 55% of the profit. They keep 45; we keep 55. And that's in the contract."
A staff presenter said the district would like to purchase another activity van; the board noted the previous van had cost about $51,000 last year when financed with ISM funds.
Central Cafeteria was noted as not participating in the program because its accounts are separate from the school system's operating accounts.
No formal action was taken during the work session; staff said they were sharing the revenue detail and seeking any questions from trustees.
