School committee approves eighth-grade trip to Canopy Lake Park for June 12

A district principal asked the committee for permission to take the entire eighth grade — about 265 students — to the park for a moving‑up celebration the day before school ends. The principal told the committee the trip cost will be $75 per student and that the district is working with the Langley Foundation and the school’s parent advisory council (PAC) to ensure students who cannot afford the fee can still attend.
Committee members asked whether the district has a plan to ensure every student who wants to participate can do so even if families face financial hardship; the principal responded that scholarship and subsidy resources from the Langley Foundation and PAC are being arranged to cover cost barriers.
Miss Nitza made the motion to approve the trip; Miss Rogers seconded it. The motion passed 6–0–0.
