Council approves 41 appointments to 17 boards and commissions; one name pulled for separate consideration

The Fayetteville City Council accepted a slate of 41 recommended appointments to 17 city boards and commissions during the March 13 meeting.
The appointments committee — which included Councilmembers Hondros, Thompson, Mayor Pro Tem Jensen and Councilmember Harris as chair — presented nominees across city advisory bodies including the Airport Commission, Ethics Commission, Community Police Advisory Board, Fair Housing and redevelopment-related commissions. The council approved the slate after a short discussion about the meaning of “partial term” (a remaining portion of a prior member’s term) and “alternate” (a nonvoting member who can attend and serve when needed to achieve quorum).
Councilmember Hondros asked that one name be pulled for separate consideration because she is the nominee’s spouse; after brief discussion the council removed that name from the group motion and later voted on the remaining slate. The appointments vote carried unanimously on the remaining nominees.
Councilmembers were reminded staff will continue outreach to fill vacancies that remain on several commissions and that the city publishes open positions for those interested in volunteering.
No ordinance or policy changes accompanied the appointments; the council’s action approved the committee’s recommendations and instructed staff to continue recruiting to fill outstanding vacancies.
