Resident asks Parks board to commemorate Joe Templin at Parvin Park

Kent Elliott, a Prosper resident whose home faces Parvin Park, asked the Parks and Recreation Board on March 13 to consider honoring Joe Templin by placing his name or a derivative of it at Parvin Park.
Elliott said Joe Templin grew up locally, left school early to work, later ran his own business and performed public works for the town. “There wasn't a person in town that didn't know Joe Templin's name,” Elliott said, asking the board to “see if we could possibly have that name or some derivative of that name” placed in the park.
The request was made during the public-comment portion of the meeting. Board members and staff said they would not comment on name requests at the time. Daniel Knox, a member of the Parks and Recreation Board who presided over the meeting, acknowledged Elliott's remarks and thanked him for speaking.
No motion or formal action on park naming was taken at the meeting; board members said publicly commenting on naming matters was not permitted during that portion of the agenda. The request remains a public comment on the March 13 record.
The board did not set a follow-up date or direct staff to take action during the meeting.
