Council OKs $357,540 upgrade for recreation center weight and cardio equipment

The City Council unanimously approved a resolution on March 11 authorizing an agreement with Marathon Fitness for replacement weight‑room strength and cardio equipment, not to exceed $357,540.
Angela Nemec, assistant director of parks and recreation, told council the facility’s strength equipment dated back approximately 15–16 years and that parts for repairs were becoming difficult to obtain. Nemec said updated cardio machines will include touch screens, wireless phone connectivity and scenic workout options; the redesign also optimizes floor space and adds pieces such as two stair climbers and two half racks.
Nemec said funding would come from a mix of the city’s VES (replacement) fund and a one‑time FY25 allocation. "This would modernize the space, with some premium equipment," she said.
Councilmembers moved and seconded approval without substantive debate. The motion passed unanimously.
