WARM appraiser to review county buildings as part of routine 10‑year assessment; public told premiums could change

County staff told the Aug. 12 meeting that an appraiser from WARM (Wyoming Association of Risk Management) will inspect county buildings as part of a routine 10-year appraisal cycle.

A member of the public, Vicky Taylor, asked whether the visit was to "do an assessment" and whether the county had been told the purpose given industry reports that some public buildings are becoming harder to insure. County staff member Cameron Duff replied that the insurance group WARM appraises buildings insured under its program every 10 years to confirm replacement values and help calculate premiums. "This is just in the cycle of a routine 10 year assessment. So they're just looking to see what is the value, what is replacement, making sure that the insurance company itself, has accurate numbers when they go to assess premiums to all entities under the program," he said.

Duff also said there is a possibility premiums could go up or that a building could be assessed differently than it had been previously. He did not specify which buildings, what the new values might be or any expected premium changes; staff said the appraisal is part of WARM's normal cycle.
