Courthouse west elevator returned to service after sump pump failure from groundwater

Eric, the facility manager for the Sheridan County courthouse, reported at the Aug. 12 staff meeting that the west elevator was out of service last week after a sump pump failed.
"We had an issue with our west elevator last week. That was due to groundwater that's consistently underneath the building right there, and a sump pump had gone out. We discovered it, pumped it all out, and replaced the sump pump," Eric said. He said the county contracted TK Elevators to inspect and service the elevator; the unit was deemed safe and is back in service.
Eric noted that the elevator shaft has experienced groundwater intrusion historically and that predecessors had sprayed and lined the shafts; he said the shafts need ongoing monitoring. No further action or capital repair plan was detailed at the meeting.
Ending: The elevator is back in service after the pump replacement and inspection; facility staff will continue monitoring groundwater intrusion at the shaft.
