South Salt Lake — Two new-business items on the March 12 agenda were tabled for further consideration: proposed changes to Civilian Review Board compensation and a proposed interlocal cooperation agreement (ILA) with Salt Lake County to accept $500,000 for downtown active-transportation design.
Mayor Wood introduced a plan to move compensation for Civilian Review Board members out of the municipal code and into ordinance language and to adjust meeting compensation amounts for the chair, regular members, alternates and a nonvoting advisory member. Council members discussed the workload of CRB members and signaled support for increasing compensation; the council voted to move the item to unfinished business at the next regular meeting for further review.
Sharon Hari of the Department of Neighborhoods presented the proposed Salt Lake County ILA to accept $500,000 in Regional Transportation Choice Fund monies for 60%-level engineering design of active-transportation projects in the downtown area, including prioritized bike routes and first/last-mile transit access. Staff emphasized the funds cover design only; construction would require future funding. Council moved the ILA item to unfinished business for additional review and to allow staff to return with details about procurement, consultant selection and next steps.
Ending: Both items will return to the council at the next regular meeting (two weeks) as unfinished business. Staff will prepare ordinance language for CRB compensation and additional ILA details including consultant procurement and potential construction funding pathways.
