City canopy tree program moves forward; staff to confirm flag pick-up and finalize orders

City staff told the Forestation Committee the canopy tree program has 10 participants and that the list of trees ordered was sent to Abrams Nursery for a quote.
Andrea (staff member) said she had sent the canopy tree list to Abrams Nursery and was awaiting a quote so the committee can approve the order. “They’ve had a very busy week, so I haven’t gotten — I asked them for a quote first. So I hope in the next day or so I will have that so I can send that out for your review, and we can get the order placed,” Andrea said.
Committee members discussed flags used to mark chosen planting locations. Staff had asked that flags be distributed when participants turned in signed contracts; some participants did not receive flags because the front desk was unaware of the process and a staff member (Ron) was not in the office. Committee members asked staff to contact participants who did not receive flags and urge them to pick them up and place them as required for site review.
Committee members also noted one household had paid for two trees but the program does not permit two trees per household. Staff said they had left a message asking the household to pick up a refund and correct the order before the nursery order is finalized.
No formal vote was taken. Staff said once the quote is approved the order will be placed and staff will coordinate with Perez and Cortez to proceed with planting and site review.
