Boulder Landmarks Board selects four preservation award winners and reports higher caseload for early 2025

The City of Boulder Landmarks Board named four projects for Preservation Month recognition and received staff updates showing an increase in early‑year applications handled by the Landmarks program.
Board members agreed to recognize 1511 Bluebell (Floral Park), 646 Pearl Street (the Arnett Fullen House), 1836 Pearl Street (house relocation/rehabilitation), and 1815 Iris for preservation stewardship; the awards will be presented at a May ceremony that staff said is planned for May 12.
Marcy Gerwing, principal planner, presented year‑to‑date and month‑to‑month statistics and said the program is seeing a notable uptick in applications. "This year the numbers are a bit higher with 10 demolition applications, 3 state tax credits, and 18 LACs," Gerwing said, comparing that to the prior year when earlier months included fewer cases. She also said staff now reviews a greater share of cases at the administrative level: in February 78% of LACs were reviewed by staff rather than the Landmarks Design Review Committee, a change tied to recent LDRC procedural adjustments.
Board members discussed outreach to a newly appointed member (the city council will appoint board and commission members March 20) and floated an optional April 2 dinner/orientation for the new appointee to meet staff and board members. Gerwing said the orientation would be publicly noticed and optional.
The board also heard a short recruitment update, reviewed LDRC timing and changes that took effect earlier in the year, and penciled in presentations for the May awards ceremony. Several board members volunteered to present awards; staff said it will contact recipients to coordinate.
