Annapolis to deploy first electric buses in late March after unveiling

The Department of Transportation told the Environmental Matters Committee the city’s first fully electric buses are being prepared for service and will enter revenue service at the end of March.
Marcus Moore, director of transportation, said the first bus was being wrapped and would be finished the next day, the second the following week, and that the city planned a public unveiling and press event at Pitmoyer on Thursday, March 27, with revenue service beginning Monday, March 31. He said the buses are 30 feet long with about 24 seats and a manufacturer‑rated range of about 58 miles, with a curb weight of approximately 23,500 pounds compared with about 26,000 pounds for the city’s standard cutaway buses.
Moore said the full charger would allow a near‑full charge in “about 3 and a half hours.” He cautioned that in practice buses may enter a reserve or energy‑saving mode when the state of charge is low and will not necessarily achieve the full manufacturer range on each duty cycle; the agency plans to rotate the vehicles across multiple fixed routes to test operational performance.
The department said it will assign the electric buses to several fixed routes (red, green, brown and the state shuttle) and possibly the magenta shuttle to give residents broader exposure to electric transit. Staff invited committee members to a pre‑service ride and said they would announce details of the unveiling and public access.
