Sarah, an IDA staff member, said Ecosteras intends to build a facility with two components: sterilization of surgical and operating-room instruments and automated treatment of biomedical waste using shredders, pressurized steam sterilizers and automated washers. "They aren't using any chemicals or burning to do the treatment, and there's no hazardous waste of any kind that's being handled either," Sarah said.
Sarah told the board Ecosteras aims to be operational on a roughly 24-month timeline and is not seeking incentives; the proposed sale price is $50,000 per acre, which staff estimated at about $400,000 total for the two lots. The contract requires a $50,000 earnest money deposit and includes a right of first refusal in favor of the IDA: if Ecosteras does not commence construction within 24 months, or if it receives an offer to sell, the IDA may repurchase the property at the original sale price.
Board members approved the purchase contracts by voice vote.
