Committee roundup: dispatch amendment, jail kitchen equipment, election resiliency grant and Clinton Township emergency management move forward

Washington Township dispatch amendment The committee recommended an amendment to the intergovernmental agreement for regional dispatch services with Washington Township to reflect changes in the township’s maintenance and support contributions after the township purchased a new records-management system from the county’s vendor, Tyler Technologies. The director of dispatch said the amendment adjusts Washington Township’s annual maintenance contribution. The committee recommended the amendment to the full board; the committee recorded a unanimous vote.
Jail kitchen equipment County jail staff requested purchase of a replacement 60‑gallon steam/gas kettle (Grown model DH60C) from Stafford Smith Inc. for $48,951.99 to replace the unit installed in 2014. Capt. Guernicki said the existing kettle has exceeded its expected life and repair costs in 2024 exceeded $7,800; a recent repair estimate for the gearbox was about $5,300. Commissioners questioned bids, warranties and funding source; staff said the Stafford Smith quote had a stronger warranty and the purchase price included delivery, installation and warranty. The committee recommended the purchase to the full board 12–0.
Election resiliency grant The county clerk said a $30,800 state reimbursement will buy additional backup “sticks” (memory/boot media) for vote tabulators so clerks have redundant disks in machines in case files become corrupted; staff said two municipalities experienced corrupted sticks during the Nov. 2024 election. The committee recommended acceptance of the election-resiliency reimbursement and the corresponding budget amendment; vote recorded 12–0.
Clinton Township emergency management The county’s emergency management director presented an IGA for Clinton Township to join the county’s emergency management program under the Emergency Management Act. Staff said communities of 25,000 or greater may either appoint their own coordinator or appoint the county’s emergency-management coordinator; Clinton Township — which had a part-time coordinator who recently retired — chose to join the county program. The director said the IGA carries no cost to the county; the committee recommended the IGA 12–0.
Washington Township, kettle purchase, election grant and Clinton Township items were all recommended to the full board during the meeting.
