Parks staff outlines spring events and reports strong response to leisure needs survey

Parks staff on March 11 reviewed a slate of spring events and said the department’s leisure needs assessment survey is outperforming previous efforts.
Upcoming activities include Denim & Diamonds family dance on March 16 at the Veterans Memorial building, a kite festival with the Discovery Museum at Rotary Centennial Park on April 27, Earth Day at Machado Plaza on April 22 (noon to 3 p.m.), and a family-oriented 5K "strawberry fun run" on April 26 in conjunction with the Strawberry Festival. Staff said the summer Concerts in the Park series is nearly finalized pending a final contract.
Staff reported the leisure needs-assessment survey had collected about 760 responses as of the previous week toward a target of 1,000; the department said the consultant will compile results after the survey closes and expected findings by June. The staff outreach person is conducting targeted pop-ups across the community to increase participation. No policy actions were taken on the agenda item.
