Council approves consent agenda; adds fireworks appropriation and budget item to consent

The Marietta City Council approved its consent agenda and carried multiple administrative items, including an appropriation for the annual Fourth of July fireworks, denial of an insurance/claims request and a budget insertion for BLW.
Councilmember Andre Sims moved to appropriate $3,750 to Parks & Recreation to support the city’s Fourth of July fireworks show on First United Methodist Church property for calendar years 2025 and 2026; the council suspended the rules to add the item to the agenda and later included it on the consent agenda. City Attorney (or clerk) noted an abstention was recorded earlier in the discussion for that item, but the consent vote recorded by the clerk was 7-0.
Council members also added and approved an item to deny a claim filed by Daniel Williams after a motion to add it to consent; council minutes record the motion to deny and the item’s addition to consent. The council additionally approved moving $1,500,000 into the BLW budget (item 20250191) and added it to consent for approval.
After discussion the consent agenda — with the added items — passed unanimously, 7-0. The consent vote bundled multiple committee-reviewed items (including items noted on pages 9 and 11 of the agenda packet) and concluded routine city business in a single action.
