Riley County Health Department to refill emergency preparedness role; two staff approved for national conference travel

Riley County Health Director Diane Creek told the board on March 13 that the Health Department needs to refill the Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) coordinator position to support emergency-response coordination with emergency management and partner agencies.
Commissioners voted to approve posting and refilling the PHEP coordinator position; the director said the position is budgeted for the current and next fiscal year and will be supervised by the health director. Creek said the department recently hired a fiscal analyst and is actively recruiting other positions.
The board also approved out-of-state travel for two health department employees, Breva Spencer and Sarah Darnell, to attend the Postpartum Support International conference in New Orleans, July 8–13. Creek said the trip is fully funded from the department's workforce development grant.
Both motions passed by unanimous voice vote. Commissioners asked that staff coordinate scheduling and return with any additional details if travel or hiring plans change.
