Community Services Director Ken Nishihara briefed the council on planned materials changes aimed at reducing vandalism and easing maintenance: restroom fixtures will transition from porcelain to stainless steel, and wall materials will be selected to allow removal of graffiti and easier cleaning. Staff said these choices reflect durability and maintenance considerations.
Residents who spoke during public comment supported the investment, saying a functioning downtown restroom is important for visitors. The motion passed on a roll call vote with all five council members voting aye. Staff said procurement and construction scheduling will follow upon contract execution and appropriation.
