Marietta staff to seek $1.5 million budget amendment for East Dixie contract

City staff told the Marietta City Council during its agenda review session that they will ask the council to amend the budget to add $1,500,000 to the East Dixie contract and that related changes to the East Dixie water-main project will reduce costs by having Public Works handle sidewalk replacement.
The presentation, given during the review session, said the East Dixie construction contract itself would remain unchanged but that the city needs to restore $1,500,000 in funding that had been removed earlier to scale back the project. Staff said the funding request will be presented as budget amendment 20250191 and needs formal council action at the regular meeting.
Staff also described a change to the East Dixie water-main contract: the original contract required replacing sidewalks to their original condition, but staff opted to have Public Works do the sidewalk work later to save project costs. That change is an operational modification intended to reduce the contractor’s scope and project expense.
No formal vote on the budget amendment occurred during the review session. A staff member said the matter would be added to the city council agenda for formal action at the 7:00 p.m. meeting. Council members asked procedural questions about whether the review session could add items to the agenda or whether it must wait for the regular meeting; staff replied that the budget amendment would be handled at the 7:00 p.m. meeting.
