Hoover board approves science and automotive textbook adoptions for 2025–26

The Hoover City Schools Board of Education voted to approve the district'recommended science and automotive textbook adoptions for the 2025'26 school year following a presentation on the adoption process.

Whitney Cooks, the district'level secondary curriculum coordinator, told the board that the Alabama State Board of Education approved a new science course of study in December 2023 and that the district formed a textbook committee to review the state'approved options. "Our review committee received and reviewed samples that the vendors and attended the textbook caravan," Cooks said during the presentation.

The district'level review committee presented its findings to a voting committee, which the board previously approved; the voting committee unanimously recommended the selections now before the board. Cooks described how K'5 and 6'8 materials will be provided as a combination of digital licenses and consumable workbooks, while most high school requests included classroom sets paired with digital access for students to use at home.

Board members asked about future adoptions and updates. Cooks said the state typically updates courses of study on roughly a six'year cycle and that the district negotiates with vendors to receive textbook updates as part of purchases. She also said the district sometimes purchases additional digital licenses in multi'year increments to bridge to the next formal adoption.

A motion to approve the science and automotive textbook recommendations was made and seconded; the board approved the recommendation.
