City staff presented two draft designs for the city’s street banners produced by CGI Communications and recommended a cleaner layout the presenter described as easier for motorists to read at typical driving speeds.
The presenter said the contract program has run for two years and this will be the third year of banner replacements under the current agreement. The two design options keep the same theme and artwork but vary in font choice, background texture and layout.
Several council members and the presenter discussed legibility at 25–30 miles per hour. Members criticized a stylized, italicized “Willows” font and a busy wood‑grain background in one option, and urged a simpler sans‑serif treatment to improve visibility. The presenter agreed to return with the preferred design but to change the “Willows” word mark to a more readable block font before final approval.
Council members also asked staff to check whether replaced banners can be returned to sponsoring businesses for reuse; staff said they would follow up with the contractor.
No formal purchase decision was made; staff will return with a revised artwork file for final approval.
