Schererville ' The Redevelopment Commission reported that requests for proposals for the Downtown 22 West redevelopment were issued Feb. 21, with responses due April 11, and that the commission expects to use outside marketing assistance through a planned membership in the Lake County Economic Alliance.
At the commission meeting on March 12 a staff member reported, "The RFPs for 22 West Joliet went out, February 21, and, they're due back on April eleventh of this year. And also, there's been about 6 packets picked up so far." Commissioners said another month remains for interested respondents to submit proposals.
Commission members also discussed recent retail closures downtown and described a plan to join the Lake County Economic Alliance (LCEA) at a membership level of $1,000 per year to help market the 22 West property and other town-owned parcels. The council president said the commission aims to be "proactive" in marketing to avoid long-term vacancies.
No formal vote on the LCEA membership was recorded in the redevelopment-commission portion of the meeting transcript; town staff and commissioners indicated intent to pursue the LCEA relationship and to identify additional properties that would benefit from marketing support.
Commissioners said six RFP packets had been taken as of the meeting and encouraged continued outreach. The commission adjourned after hearing no business from the floor.
