President Baker asked the board to recognize members of the Richmond High School bowling team and their coaches during the meeting’s celebrations segment.
Coach Mike Higgins, introduced himself at the podium and identified team members standing before the board. “My name is Mike Higgins. I am the head coach,” said Higgins, who described the program’s multi-year participation in National Bowling Association tournaments and regular practice schedule.
The board was told that, although Richmond narrowly missed qualifying this season, the tournament director extended an invitation based on the team’s past performances. The district said the Fort Wayne event is scheduled for June 7 through June 9. Higgins noted that one student, Edinger, had qualified for the singles finals at the state meet, and that the school was one of only two in the state to have more than one participant at the state singles finals.
Students and coaches also described college recruitment developments: the board was told that Logan Brewer has an offer to bowl at Marian University in Indianapolis, and Nathan Farrell has been accepted at Purdue and was undecided about athletic participation. A senior told the board he was “waiting to see how much money they’ll give me” as he weighs financial aid and athletic opportunities.
The board and audience offered congratulations and encouraged the team to recruit younger players from elementary and middle schools. Ending: board members asked staff to circulate logistics and support information when travel plans and schedules are finalized so the community can attend and support the team in Fort Wayne.
