"Dear Mike Hill and members of the city council," Oliver read from his written resignation, "I am writing to formally resign from my position as city councilman on the Rathdrum City Council effective 03/26/2025. This decision was not made lightly... My job went away. I have a new position. That new position, there is no way for me to be here on Wednesday. It is just physically impossible." The written letter, provided for the record, was dated 02/26/2025 and included a statement offering assistance for a smooth transition.
Oliver also offered a recommendation for a replacement: "I would like to suggest that John Lambie, my successor... would be my suggestion to the council and to the mayor. That is only a suggestion." He said he planned to attend the March 26 council meeting unless events prevented it.
Colleagues responded with personal remarks of appreciation. One councilmember said Oliver "bring[s] a huge amount of experience with the city" and that he would be missed as a voice for residents. Another praised Oliver's work with planning and zoning and said he had been "instrumental" in helping others learn about city processes.
Oliver thanked the council and said he looked forward to seeing the city continue to progress. The resignation letter was placed into the record; the council did not take immediate action to fill the vacancy at that meeting.
