Tulsa issues proclamation for National Safe Place Week and honors longtime employees and firefighters

The Tulsa City Council opened its meeting with multiple proclamations recognizing a youth‑safety program, long‑tenured city employees and several Tulsa Fire Department teams involved in recent cold‑weather rescues.
The council proclaimed March 16–20, 2025, as National Safe Place Week, noting Safe Place has operated in the Tulsa area through Youth Services of Tulsa since 1991 and that more than 22,000 national Safe Place locations exist. The proclamation said Safe Place in the Tulsa area has provided shelter access to more than 5,600 youth and named local partners including Kwik Trip, the Tulsa City‑County Library, Tulsa Glassblowing School, MedWise Urgent Care, Tulsa Transit, IMSA and the Tulsa Fire Department.
The council recognized multiple city employees for long service. Staff and councilors presented awards and service pins to employees listed in the meeting: Ricky Nezera (35 years, Housing Office); Erica Felix Warwick (30 years, Human Resources); Kevin Cox (20 years, Planning and Neighborhoods); Lisa Pratt (20 years, Human Resources); Rodney Horton (40 years, Water & Sewer); James Edgler and Timothy Ward (25 years, Tulsa Police Department); Rebecca Thompson and Wanda Armstrong (25 years and service in Development Services respectively); and several others from TPD, Tulsa Fire and public works who were noted in the meeting packet and recognized during the event.
The council also recognized Tulsa Fire Department crews that responded to life‑saving cold‑weather rescues during a severe cold event on Feb. 19. A resolution named the members of Engine 4, Ladder 4 and UTV 13 who took part in the rescue and recognized the van crew that transported unsheltered people to shelter during the polar‑vortex conditions; the meeting transcript lists the firefighters honored by name.
The proclamations were ceremonial and no council vote was required. Councilors used the presentations to publicly thank employees and volunteers for service to the community.
