Committee advances Daryl Brooks nomination to General Orders Board after unanimous vote

The Public Safety and Criminal Justice Committee voted Wednesday to forward the mayor’s nomination of Daryl Brooks to the General Orders Board to the full council with a do-pass recommendation.
Daryl Brooks appeared before the committee to speak briefly about his community work. He said, “It’s actually something that’s near and dear to my heart,” and described involvement with church-based community organizing, school partnerships in Pike Township and work with clergy coalitions.
Councilor Palino expressed appreciation for Brooks’s community ties and said the appointment would help “put the public back in public safety.” Councilor Carlos Perkins stated he had worked with Brooks for several years and offered his support. Councilor Graves also praised Brooks and noted their shared community work.
A motion to advance the nomination was moved and seconded and a roll-call vote was recorded. The clerk recorded ayes from Councilor Paul Onay; Councilor Dan Boots; Councilor Christa Carlino; Councilor Brianne Delaney; Councilor Graves; Councilor Frank Mascari; Councilor Jessica McCormick; Councilor Mowery; Councilor Carlos Perkins; and Chair Leroy Robinson. The committee’s tally was 10–0 in favor. Chair Leroy Robinson said he looked forward to seeing Brooks at the full council meeting.
