Councilor Vincent told the Hooksett Town Council on March 12 that he will submit his resignation effective April 1 and asked the council to consider appointing the person who won the recent election, Lindsay Liberty, to fill the resulting vacancy ahead of the winner's official July start date.
Under the town charter the council must post and fill a vacancy by appointment within a specified period, and Vincent asked staff to notify Liberty of the offer and to determine whether she could take the seat early so she could "get her feet wet" before the July term begins. Councilors said the standard appointment process would apply and that staff had already shared Liberty's contact information with the departing member.
If Liberty is unable to accept an early appointment, the council would follow its normal vacancy-administration procedures, which could include additional outreach or, if required by tied votes, a special election, the council chair said. No formal appointment was made at the March 12 meeting; Vincent's resignation will be effective April 1 and the council expects to post the vacancy and consider an appointment in the coming weeks.
