Fire department to apply for TDEM hazard mitigation grants to replace generators at Stations 1 and 6

Chief Sims said the department seeks funding to replace emergency generators at Station 1 and Station 6. He described the grant as a 75/25 program (75% federal, 25% local), and said preliminary vendor quotes place the combined project near $142,000 to $159,000; using that range, the city’s portion would be roughly $40,000 if the grants are awarded.
Why it matters: replacement generators improve station resiliency during outages and severe weather and are consistent with hazard mitigation priorities. Chief Sims said grant notification and procurement will require updated quotes at the time of award and that the grant application deadlines were March 21 and April 14 for the respective programs.
Next steps: staff requested council authorize the city to submit the resolution and apply for the grants; staff said no budget amendment was needed at application time and would return with a formal award and required budget adjustments if the grants are funded. No formal council vote was recorded at the workshop.
