The House Committee on Judiciary on Wednesday amended and advanced Senate Bill 54, a measure addressing third‑party litigation matters, after removing a reporting requirement for the Judicial Council.
Jason Thompson of the Revisor's Office explained the committee amendment would strike the bill's reporting provisions for the Judicial Council and correct a typographical error. Committee members were told proponents, neutrals and the Judicial Council had negotiated the change and that removing the Judicial Council provision reflected the Council's request.
Representative Williams moved the committee to pass the amended bill favorably for passage; the motion was seconded by Representative Beau High. By voice vote, the committee approved the amended Senate Bill 54 and ordered it to the House.
Committee members and witnesses indicated the change was noncontroversial in the negotiated shape of the amended bill; the committee printed the amendment and voted in open session Wednesday.
